Minutes of Committee Meeting 2/7/11

 

I.                               Opening of Meeting: Pledge of Allegiance

II.                            Submission of Minutes, previous meeting: Read and accepted.

 

III.                         Reading of Reports:

A. Head of Charter Organization: No report.

B. Troop Committee Chair: Updated roster. Charter renewal submitted with 38 registered scouts.

C. Troop Secretary: Review of minutes from last meeting.

D. Troop Treasurer:  Current balance: $8,864.26. All scouts are current on dues payments. All popcorn money has been collected and accounted for. There is one family with wreath money still due. Decision was made to send a donation to Friends of Scouting in the amount of $400.00.

 

E. Fundraiser Coordinator: Re-cap of wreath fundraiser. Suggestions made for a Car Wash, tentative date: Saturday April 30. Sharon will look into the possibility of a tie-in with a local pizza restaurant to raise funds for a percentage of receipts for designated “scout nights”.

 

F. Outdoor Activities Coordinator:

 

Klondike Derby Saturday: Re-scheduled for Saturday February 26.

March camping trip 3/11-3/13: Resica Falls, PA

April camping trip 4/9 – 4/10: Backpacking in Harriman State Park.

May Whitewater Rafting trip 4/13 – 4/14: Whitewater Challengers, New Haven, PA

Summer Camp 2011: Camp Yawgoog, Rhode Island. More information to follow. Reservations made for the week of June 26 –July 3 (please note: this camp runs their program from Sunday through Sunday). Scout deposits will be due in March.

Roger Cocchi will make a reservation for Camp Tri-Mount for our ski trip weekend in February, 2012 (reservations required one year in advance, the week after using the cabin).

G. Advancement Coordinator: Roger Cocchi will identify and work with scouts who need just a few requirements to advance to the next rank. Troop leaders will speak with scouts not fulfilling the “scout spirit requirement”: 50% meeting participation and 50% outing participation. Follow-up e-mails to be sent to parents.

H. Religious Emblem Coordinator: All Faith weekend announced for April 1, 2, 3. Classes being conducted for both Ad Altare Dei and Pope Pius XII emblems. Information available for emblems of other faiths for those interested – see Susanne Shultz.

 

I. Equipment Coordinator: Our five new tents will be numbered with the year “2010-A, B, C” etc. and put into use. An additional MSR backpacking stove will be purchased. Decision made to purchase an additional “Platypus” gravity feed water filter.

 

J.    Old Business:

  • Eagle Scout Plaque: Both Eagle Scout Plaques have been updated: to be placed in the Herricks Community Center. Chris Farrell will include the construction of an encased display area as part of his Eagle Scout project at the Community Center.

 

K.      New Business:

  • The troop received a confirmation for Philmont Scout Reservation for August 3-15, 2011. Nine scouts and two adult leaders are registered to attend.
  • Eagle Scout Board of Review set for Tuesday February 15 at the Community Center, Rm. 206 for Michael Capilupi and Michael Hogan.
  • Eagle Scout Court of Honor to be scheduled in May, 2011. Date to be determined by February 7.
  • Several Eagle Scout projects to be scheduled for winter/spring months: Jack Giunta; Chris Farrell; Chris Trietsch; Greg Cocchi; Jesse Torres.
  • A Webelo Welcome night is planned for Monday February 28 for Webelo II scouts in Cub Packs 8, 201 and 202
